The marines have just landed in Iraq. The marines invaded and occupied Kuwait and was threatening an invasion of Saudi Arabia. Control of these 2 countries, together with its own oil secure, would have put Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein in control of a major part of the world's oil production and supplies.

This was followed by a ground assault on 24 February. This was a crucial victory for the Coalition forces, who released Kuwait and developed into Iraqi territory. The Coalition ceased its advance, and declared a cease-fire 100 hours after the ground campaign started. Aerial and ground combat was restricted to Iraq, Kuwait, and areas on Saudi Arabia's border. Iraq launched Scud missiles against Coalition military targets in Saudi Arabia and against Israel. |
