Battle of 73 Easting
Type of battle: Ground
Date: February 26- 27, 1991 Location: south eastern Iraq Victor: U.S. Significance: The Battle of 73 Easting and the movement to contact south of the battle brought the Regiment's covering force mission for VII Corps to its conclusion. During the operation the Regiment covered the advance of three different U.S. divisions in turn, moved 120 miles in eighty-two hours and fought elements of five Iraqi Divisions. The violent battle at 73 Easting fixed the southern forces of the Iraqi Republican Guard Corps and permitted the Corps Commander to launch First Infantry Division into the depths of the Iraqi defenses and on into Kuwait. |
Battle of Ad-Dawrah

Date: January 18- 19, 1991 Location: Ad-Dawrah Offshore Oil Fields Victor: Coalition Significance: The Battle of Ad-Dawrah was a naval engagement fought during the Gulf War. In the battle, Coalition forces captured an Iraqi offshore oil field forty miles from the Kuwaiti shore. The 29 POWs captured were the first POWs of the war. It was also the first surface engagement after the Coalition intervened in the war. |
Battle of Al Busayyah

Date: February 26, 1991 Location: Al Busayyah, Iraq Victor: U.S. Significance: The Battle of Al Busayyah was a tank battle fought just during the Persian Gulf War, between armored forces of the United States Army and those of the Iraqi Army. The town consisted of forty to fifty buildings, most located along one main north-south road. It was defended by a battalion-sized Iraqi infantry unit reinforced by T-55 tanks, armored personnel carriers, and elements of an Iraqi commando battalion. The town was heavily fortified with machine gun nests and fighting positions. Twelve Iraqi tanks and twelve other armored vehicles were dug-in deeply at strategic positions in, and around, the town. Trenchlines stretched fifteen hundred meters south of town, radiating out to perimeter strong points. |
Battle of Bubiyan

Date: January 29- February 2, 1991 Location: Persian Gulf Victor: Coalition Significance: The battle was completely one-sided. Lynx helicopters of the Royal Navy using Sea Skua missiles were responsible for destroying 14 vessels during the battle. The battle saw 21 separate engagements over a course of 13 hours. A total of 21 of the 22 ships that attempted to escape were destroyed. Both surviving vessels were seized by the Iranians. |

Date: August 2, 1990 Location: Kuwait Victor: Iraq Significance: The Battle of Failaka broke out between the Kuwaiti garrison of Failaka island and attacking Iraqi forces during the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait, on August 2, 1990. The Kuwaiti garrison consisted of an infantry company and a company of Border guards, in addition to air defense company armed with Hawk SAMs. Iraqi forces consisted of Special forces Battalion transported by helicopters reinforced with a battalion of marines. |
